HomeServe North America Acquires Staten Island, New York-based Gregg Mechanical

Acquisition Bolsters HomeServe’s HVAC and Installations Business in the Greater New York City Area

Norwalk, Connecticut – July 9, 2018 – HomeServe North America (HomeServe), a leading provider of service plans, repair and installation services for the home, today announced the acquisition of Gregg Mechanical. Gregg Mechanical, based in Staten-Island, was established in 1987 by Gregg Gaal to provide a variety of heating and air conditioning-related services to customers in Staten Island, Brooklyn and parts of New Jersey.

HomeServe’s growing HVAC business has been key to the company’s growth in North America. The company’s goal is to offer a complete solution to the installation, repair and maintenance of residential heating, air conditioning and water heating systems. The Gregg acquisition represents the company’s latest step in capturing a piece of the estimated $29 billion annual HVAC business opportunity in the U.S.

There’s nothing more exciting than seeing our company continue on its growth trajectory by building out our HVAC business segment,” said HomeServe North America CEO John Kitzie. “For more than 30 years, Gregg’s customers have entrusted their homes to the company’s skilled technicians. Their shared commitment to HomeServe’s high-quality customer service makes them a natural fit for our company, and undoubtedly will continue as Gaal and his team become part of HomeServe.”

When I started this company, I did it because I wanted to ensure people got the service they needed when they needed it. Over the years, I’ve surrounded myself with people who shared that same goal,” said Gregg Gaal. “As our companies come together, I know we’ll all continue doing what we do best: delivering quality repairs and installations. That’s long been our mission, and now we get to do it together with HomeServe.” Gaal will become General Manager of the Gregg business for HomeServe.

HomeServe has been doing HVAC repairs and installations in the greater New York City area since 2010. In Staten Island alone, HomeServe’s technicians completed service calls for nearly 12,000 customers in the last 12 months.

Summer Checkups

The Summer heat has your Air Conditioning unit running constantly. In the middle of summer, it is important to make sure that your unit is running well. With the high amount of use this season, it is vital that you replace the filter in your Air conditioner. Replacing the filter allows the airflow in your home to become cleaner. A clean filter will trap more pollen, dust, dander, and other air particulates that can cause respiratory issues, especially in young children. A dirty filter prevents air from flowing as quickly, which can cause you to use more electricity before your home becomes cool. It is also a good idea to vacuum the return vent in your central air system to remove excess dust and debris before it enters the system.
The Summer is an excellent time to have your heater inspected, too. It is important to have a HVAC professional inspect your heating unit before the weather gets cold. Any repairs that your heater might need can be taken care of before the fall if the issue is found now.

Whole House Humidifiers

A whole house humidifier brings many benefits to your home. Even in the Spring, a whole house humidifier can come in handy with regulating the humidity of your home. At Gregg Mechanical, we offer our customers only the top quality in home accessories.

You may not think about it, but a whole house humidifier serves more than the benefit of preserving the moisture in air of your home. With the preservation and control of humidity, you and your family will be less likely to catch viruses, the common cold, a sore throat, or even cracked and itchy skin that usually occurs when the air in your home is too dry; especially with cases of allergies that are common for this time of the year, having a whole house humidifier can ease agitation of your allergies.

The dry air that’s in your house can also cause possible damage to the furniture in your home, such as: hardwood flooring, paint, plaster, and even electrical items. In addition, by having a whole house humidifier in your home leads to lower costs on your heating/cooling bills as you won’t have to fuss around with the thermostat as much; by having the humidifier regulate the air in your home, it causes the temperature in your home to settle to a comfortable setting.

aprilaire-model-700-humidifierFurthermore, a whole house humidifier is beneficial in that it is installed right into the heating and cooling ducts in your home, which means that you no longer have to have individual humidifiers placed throughout the rooms of your home. We also carry Aprilaire Humidifiers as well, and they are a fine example of another humidifier resource.

Whole House Humidifiers are an ideal product that can be used in any season, and you wouldn’t want to find yourself without one. For more information about our whole house humidifiers or any of our other products, feel free to give Gregg Mechanical a call at (718) 761-2300.

Kohler generators deliver that type of energy to your home. Everything from your central air system to your security system can be run off of a single Kohler generator. There is also no need to worry about refueling it, because it runs off of your home’s natural gas. These generators also come with a 5 year-2000 hour warranty.

Change Your Furnace Air Filters

With the recent cold fronts, your furnace may be running more often than not. Now is a great time to change your air filters, which will keep your furnace running more efficiently, while keeping the air that blows through the vents cleaner. A dirty air filter can cause congestion, asthma attacks, and more dust in the house. If you don’t change your filter, the quality of your furnace can decrease overtime. Dust, pollen, pet dander, bacteria, and mold spores are trapped by a furnace air filter, but can pass through a dirty one. Replace your filter every month or two.

Winter Air Conditioning Maintenance

Your Air Conditioner may not see use in the cold winter, but you should make sure it is up and running. Air Conditioners should be checked and maintenanced during the winter while you and your family are not relying on it to keep your home cool. While the heat runs strong in your home, the proper care and maintenance on your air conditioner can keep you home cool in the summer without issues.
Filters in an A/C unit should be cleaned or replaced regularly, to keep it running efficiently. A dirty filter can make your air conditioner use up more energy than necessary. The evaporator coil and condenser coils in an A/C can become dirty over time, even with clean filters. Dirty coils can become insulated, which prevents them from absorbing heat and producing cold air. Covering your outdoor central air unit during the winter can keep it from harmful weather or debris.
If your air conditioner requires more than regular maintenance, hire a licensed professional for your service work. Contact us today for more information on air conditioning maintenance, repair, or installation by calling 718-761-2300

Heating and Air Conditioning Maintenance

When dealing with the heating and air conditioning systems for your home, the old saying “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” can be risky. Your heating and air conditioning systems work to keep you and your family comfortable 24/7, so timely care is essential. The proper maintenance of these systems can keep the bills down and your home comfortable for many more years than a unit that is left untreated.
Why should you perform regular maintenance on your heating system? In addition to the units lasting longer, systems that are properly and regularly maintenance can provide a lot more for a house, and keep you from spending thousands fixing problems. Unchecked systems can cause a variety of issues in your home, such as Carbon Monoxide leaks, corrosion, soot buildup, heat loss, and more. The proper and regular maintenance, performed by a licensed professional 1 to 2 times a year, can lead to lower heating bills, less fire hazards, and can improve the overall efficiency of your heating unit.
Water heater maintenance is also vital in any home. Water heaters that are properly maintained can last longer and will keep extra costs down on the heating and water bills. Pipes are more prone to freezing during cold weather if the water heating system is not properly maintained.
Air conditioner systems should be serviced before the spring and fall, where you will need them to cool down your home. Air conditioners and central air systems should be regularly checked to maintain proper temperature control in a home.

Winter Warning on Carbon Monoxide

Carbon monoxide alarmWintertime is an important time to make sure your carbon monoxide detector is in working order. There is an increased risk of incidents due to the fact that during winter your windows and doors are usually closed to conserve energy. This doesn’t allow gases like  to escape from your home. Carbon monoxide is called the silent killer. It’s a colorless and odorless gas, but the use of a properly installed and maintained carbon monoxide detector along with a properly ventilated home and a properly maintained heating system can prevent most cases of carbon monoxide poisoning. Please perform regular checks on your carbon monoxide detector. Do a test and battery check according to manufacturers recommendations at proper intervals. This can save your life, and the life of your loved ones. Have your heating system checked annually and your fire and carbon monoxide detectors regularly. Keep a set of fresh batteries available at all times.  Make this winter a warm and safe one. If you have questions call us.If your Carbon Monoxide detector alerts you contact the Fire Department. If you have questions on maintenance call us at 718-761-2300.
